As the UMD chapter of Food Recovery Network continues to get
into the swing of things this semester, we have some exciting updates for
everyone.
First off, in terms of number of meals recovered, we are
reaching even higher this year. In 2011-12, FRN recovered 30,000 meals. This
year, we are hoping to bump up the number to 45,000. With your help, we can do
it!
This Monday, September 10th, we will begin
recovering food from the North Campus Diner. This is a great opportunity for us
to increase the quantity of food we collect, and also increase the number of
opportunities for volunteers to help us out! We will be keeping everyone posted
about future recoveries at the Diner.
Additionally, we have a new refrigerator! This means that there
will be even more opportunities for food to be recovered from all around campus
at more times, as we’ll be able to store it for longer periods of time.
SAVE THE DATE: On Friday September 28th, at 2 PM,
we’ll be having our first Network-Wide Event of the semester. Keep your eyes peeled
for more information.
Finally, a shout-out to Lauren Kestner, who just joined the
FRN Leadership Team as the new Event Coordinator.
