Farmer's Market!

Hey FRN fans!

Food Recovery Network is beginning recoveries from the Farmer's Market in front of Cole Fieldhouse. The Farmer's Market takes place every Wednesday until November 14.

So we need your help! If you are free from 2-3 PM on Wednesdays, to either help recover or drive food to Christian Life Center (a brief drive), e-mail us at umd@foodrecoverynetwork.org.

Can't wait to see y'all there and get more food recovered!

Hunger and Homelessness Week

Hey FRN Supporters!

On November 3-11, Food Recovery Network will be supporting MaryPIRG's Hunger & Homelessness Week! The goal of the week is to raise awareness for hunger and homelessness in the College Park area.

There will be numerous events all around campus and in the area, so save the date and keep your eyes peeled for future announcements. On the 3rd, we will be recovering food from the football game against Georgia Tech.

More information can also be found via Jimmy Booth, at jbooth91@terpmail.umd.edu.

See you then!

The Ball is Rolling...

Hey FRN supporters!

The semester is nearly a month complete, and FRN is rolling. As previously mentioned, we are converting our counting method from meals to pounds, allowing a more accurate representation of the food we have recovered. Our fridge is also allowing us to delve into more possibilities for recoveries, which will help us reach our semester goals!

We've also been using the reusable trays that we recently acquired, allowing for even less waste in our recoveries.

Keep your eyes peeled for our first network-wide event, coming up in the next couple weeks. You won't want to miss it!

New Logo

Surprise! Tonight at 11PM FRN has officially changed its logo to the swanky new one now seen at the head of the website. You'll be seeing a lot more of it in the coming months in the form of shirts, stickers, and flyers, so take a gander now and get accustomed to our new swag.

Coverage from County Cable Montgomery

Hey FRN fans! Just this past week, we were filmed by County Cable Montgomery on a pickup from 251 North, with our volunteers from CIVICUS. The video is below, so check it out and show your friends!

Thank you to Susan Kenedy for coming to film us, and to all of the volunteers for making it possible.

Exciting Updates!

As the UMD chapter of Food Recovery Network continues to get into the swing of things this semester, we have some exciting updates for everyone.

First off, in terms of number of meals recovered, we are reaching even higher this year. In 2011-12, FRN recovered 30,000 meals. This year, we are hoping to bump up the number to 45,000. With your help, we can do it!

This Monday, September 10th, we will begin recovering food from the North Campus Diner. This is a great opportunity for us to increase the quantity of food we collect, and also increase the number of opportunities for volunteers to help us out! We will be keeping everyone posted about future recoveries at the Diner.

Additionally, we have a new refrigerator! This means that there will be even more opportunities for food to be recovered from all around campus at more times, as we’ll be able to store it for longer periods of time.

SAVE THE DATE: On Friday September 28th, at 2 PM, we’ll be having our first Network-Wide Event of the semester. Keep your eyes peeled for more information.

Finally, a shout-out to Lauren Kestner, who just joined the FRN Leadership Team as the new Event Coordinator.

Welcome Back!

Hope everyone had a fantastic summer! This semester at UMD we have a lot of exciting expansion going on that we would love for you to be a part of. Starting this fall, we're going to be needing more student groups to join us in recovering the surplus food on our campus. We've always wanted to recover from all UMD's shops, restaurants, and cafes, and this expansion is possible now that we're purchasing a new fridge to store smaller amounts of recovered food.

Consider this our food recovery call-to-arms--we've got food waste, and a way of diverting it to those in need, so be our missing link and join our manpower to help FRN expand to everywhere on campus. Email us at frn.umd@gmail.com if you're interested in helping us out or would like to find out more information.

Happy first day, terps!
